The Fall Flowers That Add Color to Your Yard

Don't you just love the colors of fall? There are some really great flowers that can add to the beautiful fall colors in your yard. Here are the ones you can plant to really make your yard look stunning.

Sunflower

One flower that you can enjoy at the end of summer and all the way to the first frost of fall is the sunflower. These large yellow flowers, while you might think of warmth, actually signal that fall is on its way. They begin to bloom in August and will last well into October and possibly even November.

Chrysanthemums

Chrysanthemums are really the perfect fall flower. They came in so many different varieties of colors that you really can get a beautiful vibrant garden with just different colors of chrysanthemums. November just so happens to have only one birth month flower while the rest of the months have two, and chrysanthemums are it for November. The chrysanthemum can be either perennial or annual. The annual ones are easier to maintain, but either way you will get beautiful flowers with plenty of color options for your yard.

Geraniums

Geranium flowers are easy to grow and also come in a large variety of colors. You can get these to grow in areas with lots of shade or sun. The also do well in both hot and cold climates. Be warned though; these flowers will spread throughout your garden. They remain low, but will spread covering the ground.

Marigolds

Marigolds, while traditionally summer flowers, also make for beautiful fall flowers. You can enjoy these for a good portion of the year, starting in the hot summer months and lasting through fall. With another wide array of bright colors these flowers will add a lot of pop to any fall garden.

Thanksgiving Cactus

If you want to have a great fall plant in the house, then try the Thanksgiving cactus. This is a great houseplant. It must be grown indoors in a room where the temperature is at least 70 degrees F. It needs to be kept in a pot in a window that gets a lot of light. It does not require a lot of watering - just once a week or if the leaves look a little dry.

The flowers on the Thanksgiving cactus are very dainty looking. They are usually pink, red, or white. The flowers do not last long, but the plant buds continuously. You can get plenty of flowers from it to make a beautiful holiday centerpiece. The Thanksgiving cactus can live throughout the year too, though, and not just in the fall.

All of these flowers which grow great in the fall will really do wonders inside and outside of your home. With the proper maintenance, they can really give you a lush garden right up until the first snowfall.
